Happy Hollow

The MBS board is taking important first steps towards giving the area currently known as the “Happy Hollow Children’s Garden” a makeover. Many design elements will go into the reimagined garden. It goes without saying that we’ll incorporate ADA accessible pathways, use waterwise plants and maintain our view of the San Juan Mountains. The area will also likely be regraded so it’s less of a “hollow” and more of a shallow bowl, thus creating more usable space.

Our board wants this space to be attractive to all generations and accessible to anyone, no matter their physical abilities. The board will use public input gathered through a survey and open house in late spring to help shape its Request for Proposals from landscape architects this summer. Stay tuned for updates!

The pathway leading down into Happy Hollow features a series of storyboards, periodically updated by our friends at the Montrose Regional Library. Every June, children gather to plant the raised beds in Happy Hollow with tomatoes, peppers, herbs and -- to feed the soul -- flowers. And every September, they return to harvest the garden and use its bounty to express their creativity.
